April 27 and 28- Final project for Of Mice and Men

Working with theme in Of Mice and Men

Pick 2 of the following themes:

 

Dreams, Loneliness, Differences, Death, Friendship

Then create a page with:

1. Find or create three different artistic examples of the theme (for an A) or two examples (for a B).
2. For each artistic example, explain how the picture is related to the theme.
3. For each artistic example, include a quote with page number that is related to the theme. Explain what the quote is saying about the theme.

EXTRA CREDIT

v  Do more than two artistic examples.

v  Find/write a poem that helps either explain how they feel about that theme or would give good advice as to how they should deal with that issue.

v  Do another theme.

Alternatively, you could write a 5- paragraph compare/contrast paper

1.    Compare the character of Candy to his dog

2.    Compare the relationship between Candy and his dog to the relationship between George and Lennie

3.    Contrast the way Lennie relates to Crooks to the way Curley’s wife relates to Crooks

4. Compare the killing of Candy’s dog to the killing of Lennie

Make sure you have an intro (with a grabber and thesis), 1-3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion (restate thesis and kicker).

April 25 and 26- To a Mouse

We read the following poem, talked it over and made sure we understood it. Then we wrote a half page explaining what the farmer in the poem was thinking as he was talking to the mouse.
